Everyone knows that hard work is an extremely important ingredient
to any successful endeavor, but working smart in addition to
working hard can really make that hard work count. Have you
ever known an individual that worked extremely hard, but never
really got as far as they could have because they didn’t
work hard in a particularly smart way? Maybe you’ve known
someone who was extremely clever, but wasn’t particularly
fond of working very hard. They knew how to get by in life on
their cleverness, but never really went as far as they could
because they avoided working hard. Maybe one of these individuals
is you! Well I am going to recommend a third alternative to
you (no, it is not being lazy and dumb). It is working hard
and working smart! Most people fall into one of the two previously
mentioned categories, but if you want to be successful at running
an online business, you need to determine which tendency is
yours and work on the other, which is obviously your weakness.
If you tend to dive right in and get things going right away,
you could probably stand to take a step back, plan, prepare,
keep organized, and remain somewhat methodical. If you tend
to plan and dream, work on something until it is perfect, or
even procrastinate a little, then take a lesson from the “dive
right in” type and … dive right in! You don’t
have to know everything before you know enough to do something!
Plot out some basic short-term goals and execute them. Don’t
deviate from them. Be disciplined. If something comes to mind
and needs to be added to the “to do” list, then
go ahead and add it. But make sure you stick to your list and
do the most urgent and most important things first. If you continually
re-prioritize your list and do the most important things at
the top, then you’ll always get the important things done
and you won’t waste nearly as much time on the unimportant
things!
