Everyday more and more of us are turning to the internet as
a life resource. We use the internet to find answers to questions
ranging from silly to major decisions. The internet and the
digital revolution are changing our everyday lives by the
second. We are accustomed to getting the information we seek
from all kinds of web sites and pages. Some of them are attractive
and easy to use. Most are not. Keep this in mind when you
design your site. Most of us could care less about the fancy
graphics or Flash animations we encounter. We want the answer
to our question… yesterday. For this reason, make the
answers you offer in your web site easy to find. Help yourself
by helping your visitors find what they are looking for quickly.
K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, Silly!)
There are many fancy and flashy websites on the web today,
and more are being added every day. Many have fancy flash
animations, or beautiful graphics, or even audio and video
media embedded in them, but to have a profitable e-business
you do not need any of these glitzy features. In fact, features
such as these can be a hindrance to your success by causing
your pages to load slowly and preventing the search engines
from indexing your pages. You can always add them to your
site eventually if you choose to, but don’t think that
you have to have them to keep up with your competition. It
would be wise to use them sparingly. Visitors want value content,
not glitz. They want the compelling and beneficial information
that you are offering them, not the beeps and whistles. As
the saying goes, “Content is king!” They call
this the information revolution for a reason: people want
quality information! The more useful your visitors find your
information, the more visits (especially repeat visits!) your
site will get.
