It is probably safe to say that if you are considering starting
an online business, chances are pretty good that you have
encountered and even regularly utilize search engines to search
for information yourself. Most of us are familiar with names
like Yahoo, Google, AOL, MSN, Ask, LookSmart, Netscape, and
others. There are in fact THOUSANDS of these “search
engines” out there, many of which are terrific and very
helpful, and many more of which are not so great at all. (We
will discuss the difference between the two later) Individuals
that are searching for information on the web depend on the
these valuable tools to find what they are looking for, as
are individuals who are trying to get their precious information
or goods in front of these web “surfers” who are
using these engines to make their information turn up in these
searches.
So, the next obvious question would be, "How
does a eBusiness owner like myself actually get my information
or products (web pages) listed by these search engines?"
Well this, quite honestly is simpler than you might think.
Every search engine or directory has a page with submission
guidelines that can normally be reached from the search engine
home page. Each engine tells you “exactly” (well,
almost exactly as we’ll be demonstrating later!) what
they want and how they want it. If you simply follow their
directions and meet their criteria, they will be more than
glad to include your pages to be viewed by their guests. They
want as much useful content as they can get to provide to
their guests, and they are counting on quality sites like
ours to give it to them. It is really that simple. One other
thing to consider is “express inclusion”. Often
it can take as long as a month to appear in a search engine’s
index, but many of the best search engines offer an express
inclusion (often promising inclusion within a week or even
24 hours, depending on the engine) for a price. Once again,
depending on the engine, this express inclusion fee can range
from anywhere to $50 to $500. It isn’t necessarily always
worth it, but I felt that I should at least to mention it
to you.
WARNING: While the direct submission is the way the search
engines themselves have set up for you to get your site included
on their index, there are huge disadvantages to relying on
this method for getting your pages indexed. The biggest disadvantage
is the length of time it takes to get indexed this way.
In my book, "How
Ordinary People Make Extraordinary Money Online!",
I lay out some much more effective, less expensive, and faster
ways to get your site's pages on the search engines. Don't
miss out on the amazing tips and guidelines in this book!
