Now that you know how to get your indexed by the search engines,
your troubles are over and you are on your way, right? WRONG!
This is exactly where so many web designers and marketers
fall short, and this is why they fail so often.
Many of the professional web design firms offer to submit
your website to literally thousands of search engines for
you, but you end up seeing little to no results. Why? Getting
your pages submitted to thousands of engines at one time sounds
fantastic, doesn’t it? But what most online entrepreneurs
(and web designers for that matter) don’t realize is
that such a submission is a virtually worthless act.
The design firm that offers you this "service"
wants to make it sound as if they are “giving”
you something of great value when they are not. In fact, not
only is it most likely useless, there is a chance that it
could actually do more harm than good. Some of the so-called
“search engines” out there are not in existence
for legitimate purposes. They are often there to gather domain
and email information for spammers.
A basic submission to a search engine will do almost nothing
to draw in any traffic to your site, but these companies know
that most individuals out there have no idea that this is
the case. They just mention it to sound like the good guys.
It’s very easy for them to do, and it does virtually
nothing to improve your traffic. It’s really big of
them, isn’t it?
Not only this, but if your pages are not
designed to please the search engines to begin with, a submission
to even a legitimate search engine like Google will do you
absolutely no good. What good is it to be indexed by
a search engine if your placement on the engine is horrible?
If you don’t show up on the first page of the engines
search results, then you can forget about any real traffic.
Unless you rank prominently, simply being indexed is virtually
worthless. Simply knowing how to receive a basic listing by
a search engine is nowhere near sufficient enough to generate
enough traffic to produce a prosperous eBusiness. We are now
required to tackle a much larger and even more important question.
Have you ever noticed that when you execute a search on an
engine, often you get thousands of results back … maybe
even tens or hundreds of thousands? Do you ever look through
all 356,932 results from your search (of course not), or do
you typically scan through the first page or two (at the absolute
most) to find what you are looking for? Ever wonder how the
search engine chooses these pages and what makes them turn
up in the order that they do in the search results? What are
the criteria that determine this order? How does a particular
website get the honored position of #1 out of 356,932? Did
they pay more to get this position? More than likely not.
Have they been on the web longer? Not necessarily. Is their
website better than the 356,931 others? Once again, probably
not.
You are probably beginning to see the value in being #1 or
2 in those search results, or maybe # 10, or at the least
# 50, but anything beyond that and you might as well not forget
it! If your website isn’t getting into at least the
top 50 results (at the absolute worst) in the search engines,
there is really no point at all of submitting to them. But
how are you possibly going to be able to compete with the
other millions of websites out there who are coveting this
upper echelon of search results? How are these other websites
doing it? If the competition is so terribly stiff online,
what could possibly make my website do so much better than
the rest? Don’t worry! I am going to tell you! But the
real question that you should be asking is this: is it really
worth it to pursue these coveted top positions in the search
engines? Are we sure that doing this isn’t just a waste
of time that won’t produce any results? Absolutely!
While it is quite possible to simply author some web pages
off the top of your head, submit them to a few engines, and
possibly get a random #1 position on an engine with one of
them, but this is highly unlikely and at least impossible
to do consistently. It is downright lucky and usually very
temporary. While this hit or miss method will not prove very
effective for you, I am about to teach you a set of methods
that will prove effective for you, and it’s really not
that hard to implement!
Please believe me when I say to you that this method really
works! I’m telling you that these concepts that I am
about to share with you will make such an amazing difference
in your website traffic and your online business! But before
we get too involved in how to position well in the search
engines, let’s make sure that we have a good understanding
of what search engines are, what they do, how they do it,
and why. Otherwise the principles that I am going to share
with you won’t make any sense to you at all.
