Conventional advertising on the radio, television, in print,
on billboards, etc. can be a fairly effective way to market
your product or services, but there are two major drawbacks
to this kind of advertising. The first is cost. This kind
of advertising can be pretty expensive. It can potentially
get your products or services in front of a HUGE audience,
but that is where our second problem comes in: This huge audience
is not very targeted. Sure, you can certainly aim for your
demographic by advertising during programs that are preferred
by that target audience, but that is about it. There are other
options that are far more effective at qualifying who you
market to.
In this modern digital era, most of us have turned to all
kinds of digital tools for much of our work load. Many of
us communicate, present, deliver, manage, plan, keep track
of and execute with our laptops, our handheld devices, our
web-enabled cell phones, gps units, and our wireless connections.
These modern conveniences have literall changed the way we
do business, manage our schedules, and live our lives both
professionally and personally. The way we do things is changing
on almost a daily basis thanks to the digital devices that
are entering our lives.
But there seems to still be some resistance to change in
some areas. Advertising and marketing are two examples of
this. While many ultra-progressive companies are working toward
taking advantage of so many of the opportunities afforded
by the digital era, most are terribly behind in seeing these
new opportunities.
While many of us seem to get the fact that an email is much
faster, more convenient, and far less expensive than sending
a memo by mail, few seem to grasp that the digital age offers
us many similar advantages in advertising and marketing.
